I still Remain APC Chairman In Lokoja LG – Bature

By Amuda Dan Sulaiman FAB

Alhaji Maikudi Bature, the embattled chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), in Lokoja Local Government Area of Kogi State says he remains the substantive chairman of the party in the council area.

Bature stated this in a telephone chat with Kogiwatch on Sunday.

He was reacting to his suspension by some members of the local government executive council over alleged diversion of campaign fund.

Bature was on Saturday (yesterday) suspended by some members of the APC who according to him are not ward chairmen.

Bature said his suspension by the few party members was not in variance with the party’s constitution, and described it as illegal.

He denied diverting any fund, saying that campaign funds were solely handled by the local government campaign council which was made of several members.

“You are all aware of the recent happenings within our great party in the local government area where some few elements said they have suspended me.

“But I want to unequivocally say that I remain the APC chairman.

“These are misguided elements within us who want to cause confusion, unfortunately their action is a nullity because it is illegal and against the constitution of the party.

“We shall not allow impunity and brigandage in our party and if they want to remove me, they must follow due process. I have no skeleton in my cupboard and so my hands are clean,” he said.

Bature called on the aggrieved members to come to round-table discussion in order to resolve their differences for the overall interest of the party.

Some leaders of the party who spoke with Kogiwatch dissociated themselves from the purported suspension, saying “we were not consulted”.

They said all the party 10 ward chairmen in the local government area only recognize Bature as the chairman of the party in the area, as any other person parading himself in that position would not be recognized.
